Bath wastes, the system that drains your bath, are more diverse than you might think. There are many wastes to suit different purposes. They are essential because they manage the efficient drainage of your bath water and prevent blockages in your pipes due to skin, hair, and other dirt.

Pop-up waste for baths

Pop-up waste typically has a small lever or handle behind its taps. This lever is pushed or pulled to 'pop' the waste and allows drainage. It then pushes the waste down when the bath fills.

Clicker bath wastes

Clicker bath waste, also known as a click-clack or push-button waste, is a self-contained and unreachable waste that does not require a handle or lever to activate. This waste is simply pushed down by the user to close it, then pushed again to open it and allow the water to escape.

Wastes from the bathtub are slotted

An overflow hole in a bath allows water to drain. If the plug is not in place and the water level rises, you will need slotted waste for the bath. If water has been captured by an overflow, the slot or opening located underneath the waste container allows it to drain away.

Unslotted waste from baths

Unslotted waste does not have this drainage hole and should be installed only in baths without an overflow hole.

Bath wastes can be plugged and chained

The most common type of bath waste, and probably the one that you associate most with bath time as a child, is plug and chain waste. The plug is either chrome or rubber and is attached to the chain. This chain is then attached to a stay that is several inches above its plug hole. An overflow rose is usually attached to these plugs, which allows water to drain in the event of a rise in water level.
